Nowadays, the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for developments of such type, scale and complexity like Serdika, is becoming one of the key factors towards the overall success of the project. It's a proven fact that the full potential of BIM approach can be reached only when it is integrated into the project strategy from the very beginning, being recognized as a common platform by all participants in the design and construction process - architects, engineers, contractors, cost estimators as well as the investors and later the facility managers.
Simply because BIM is a process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle.
That was not the case with Serdika where the whole project environment was based on conventional methods for design, coordination and administration.
We, as architectural team hired by the general contractor developed the model presented here using Revit Architecture, to address some of the challenges in our own scope mainly related to documenting the elements of the building envelope with it's complex geometry. It helped us also a lot with some quantity take-offs and to identify some problematic issues and communicate the solutions with the engineers.
